Family Mediation Process

A simple guide to how our mediation services work.

Step 1: Book a MIAM (mediation information and assessment meeting).

Book a MIAM appointment.

Step 2: MIAM (initial confidential one-to-one meeting)

A confidential MIAM is held to explain the mediation process, assess suitability, and discuss your options for moving forward. If mediation is not deemed suitable we can provide you with the relevant court form pages (sometimes known as MIAM certificates) to prove your attendance if you are applying to court.

Duration: 45-60 minutes

Step 3: Joint Mediation

If both participants agree to attend joint sessions we will find a mutually convenient time to schedule a joint session to discuss child arrangements and/or your financial settlement.

Duration: Up to 90 minutes

Step 4: Session Outcomes

If you reach agreements in your joint sessions you will receive an outcome summary to summarise your agreements and next steps. Joint session outcome summaries are included in your session fee. These documents are confidential, legally privileged and not legally binding and are intended for your personal reference only. Final outcome documentation such as parenting plans, open financial statements and memoranda of understanding are chargeable.
